St. Maarten’s Tainted Image--- Sky is the Limit Affair
While much is said about the Sky is the Limit Foundation and their donation, the motion of non confidence voted against the commissioner and most of all the politicking of the resignation which was submitted by the commissioner. One thing for sure St. Maarten’s image which is already tainted in the Netherlands will become a lot dirtier by time this affair is put to rest.
Having to hear from the island leader that they were waiting on the Governor to notify them on the commissioner’s resignation before they decide to officially handle it, is nothing more than a joke. Joke because it seems as if some of the members of the Democratic Party is not on the same waive length as the people and most of all that of the Dutch government. St. Maarten has been accused of having corrupt people. There are several reports written up against St. Maarten the WODC for sure did not paint this island in a nice rainbow color. One would think that government would consider these reports and make sure they do not make the same mistake twice. Why because Country Status is at Stake.
Just last week a letter was published in one of the local newspaper where a Democrat openly condemned the commissioner whom he said did not listen. On Monday Franklyn Meyers resigned from the Democratic Party obviously because he has had enough.
Enough of bending over backwards to save a government, enough of accepting non sense from persons who only have their own interest at heart and not the business of those people who elected them to serve.
Hopefully with the resignations of these long standing democrats and the resignation from those people who served on TELEM board the Leader of the Democratic Party would be Brave and Bold to say Enough is Enough and put St. Maarten before politics.
